An event dedicated to Paris Herouni at Shirakatsy Lyceum

Writer: Mariam VardanyanMariam Vardanyan

On May 10, the Shirakatsy Lyceum Educational Complex organized an event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician Paris Herouni and warmly welcomed the founders of the Carahunge Armenological Center—Nana Herouni, Hrachik Hakobjanyan, and Zohrab Mughdusyan.

At the entrance, we were greeted by the principal of the lyceum, Mr. Ashot Alikhanyan, a hospitality staff member, and two tour guides—students from the graduating class. We were escorted through the checkpoint of the patrol service, and our nearly one-hour tour of the lyceum premises began. We explored the institution’s buildings and sports facilities, including tennis courts and a football field. Right in the first lobby, there was a large monitor displaying an announcement about the day's cultural program dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician Paris Herouni, a distinguished radio physicist and Armenian cultural historian.

During the tour, we witnessed the vibrant and well-organized educational and cultural life of the lyceum, which has achieved great success. This remarkable achievement in modern times is the result of the principal Ashot Alikhanyan’s vision and the daily dedication of the friendly and hardworking community he has built.

Alongside the intensive educational and methodological activities, the lyceum offers fitness and dance classes, pottery, fine arts, and painting courses, as well as sports and tourism programs.

After the tour, we proceeded to the main hall, where the performance dedicated to Paris Herouni began. Since the 1990s, Herouni had collaborated with the lyceum, initiated a mathematics Olympiad, and had repeatedly given lectures to the students. The performance was multifaceted: it included Paris Herouni’s speech using artificial intelligence, episodes from the scientist’s life and his meetings with the lyceum, his research works, a group dance performance, and presentations of students’ geological studies in the Carahunge Observatory area. At the end, we, the guests, had the opportunity to express our thoughts on stage and answer students' questions.

At the end of our visit, we had a warm conversation over a cup of coffee with the leadership team and Mr. Alikhanyan in his office, followed by lunch at the lyceum. We gratefully noted that many staff members approached us during the tour, expressing their kind words about both Paris Herouni and the work of the Carahunge Cultural Center.

We felt deeply touched and honored by the high level of hospitality and the warmth and respect shown towards Academician Paris Herouni.

We believe that today’s meeting will undoubtedly lay the foundation for future cooperation between Shirakatsy Lyceum and the Carahunge Armenological Center.
